US pre-orders of HTC One already over “several hundred thousand”: Report

htc-one-silverDespite the delayed launch, HTC One seems to be quite popular among US consumers, where the smartphone has already amassed ‘several hundred thousand’ pre-orders, reports Focus Taiwan.

Quoting a company executive, the Taiwanese publication notes that the HTC flagship phone has generated a huge consumer interest in the country. HTC is also running a trade-up program in the US, in which they’ll give you $100 back when you trade in your old phone and buy the new HTC One. Increased marketing and such promo offers have surely helped in generating a lot of buzz about the phone.

“We are seeing our strongest initial response for any smartphone we’ve ever designed with several hundred thousand people in the U.S. pre-registering to purchase the new HTC One,” Jason Mackenzie, HTC president for global sales and marketing noted on Monday.

HTC, which will being the sales of HTC One beginning March 27 in Taiwan, UK and Germany, is having a hard time in procuring key components for the manufacturing leading up to the delay in US launch. The US launch was supposed to happen this month, but is now delayed until April.

“When we originally announced the new HTC One, we communicated a March availability date but we unfortunately will not meet this date in the U.S.,” Mackenzie said. “We apologize for this delay and are confident that you will find that the new HTC One will be well worth the wait,” he added.

In related news, HTC has started pushing a software update to HTC One pre-release review units, which apparently improves the quality of images taken from One’s camera. The update will be pre-loaded on retail units.
