Samsung Galaxy S III pips Apple iPhone 4S to become world’s bestselling smartphone in Q3
The latest numbers from research firm Strategy Analytics are in and they have a very interesting update that Samsung’s Galaxy S III left Apple iPhone 4S behind to become the top-selling smartphone in the last quarter.
One or the other Apple iPhone was the most selling smartphone for the last two years and Samsung Galaxy S III finally unseated it in the quarter ending September 2012.
Samsung sold 18 million units of Galaxy S III in the Q3 compared to Apple iPhone 4S, whose 16.2 million were sold during the same time.
“Samsung’s Galaxy S3 has proven wildly popular with consumers and operators across North America, Europe and Asia,” said analyst Neil Mawston.
Strategy Analytics predicts that S III will not be able to hold on the top spot during the current quarter, and iPhone 5 will ship the most units, which has already sold 6 million units in Q3.
“We expect the new iPhone 5 to out-ship Samsung’s Galaxy S3 in the coming fourth quarter of 2012 and Apple should soon reclaim the title of the world’s most popular smartphone model,” added Mawston.
