Google has started rolling out the Jelly Bean update for Nexus S smartphone. The update is now rolling out over-the-air and is available for GT-I9020T, GT-I9023 variants.
This JRO03E update will take Nexus S to Android 4.1.1 and is 114.4MB in size.
You can check out the full Jelly Bean change-log here.
You will also use custom recovery to install the update manually, which is available for download from Google.

Great News, But still no OTA notification received.
did anyone from india got the update?
not yet!I hope soon.
Well, I just installed it. Works fine. Is noticeably faster and smoother, but the compass is still busted. (Google Nexus S, GT-i9023)
I got the Jelly bean OTA update with a trick 🙂
1. Make sure that Your Nexus S having enough battery charge or plug it.
2. “Go to Manage Apps” and clear the data under “Google Services Framework” and click “force stop application”
3. Switch off the phone
3. I have changed my SIM (I’m a user of Vodafone India) to T-Mobile (which came along with a pack when i purchased Nexus S from USA)
4. Switch on the Phone , and you will get a “Location consent Data share ” pop up and click “disagree” to that.
5. Check the system and settings > about phone > you will see Jelly bean is already downloading 🙂
this trick does work!!!
great tip pramod..
India has anyone done this?
I got the update today as a OTA. Look Nice and Fast than ICS 4.0.4
Sitting here in IN for a couple of weeks, first i thought i would have no luck (and that i have to wait til i’m back home); fortunately, thanks to your post, its OK!
After a days use I can see only few improvements,
1. SMS bug is sorted out, now address can be typed fast without any problem when you type fast , earlier when i used to enter the first letter in the address field the cursor used to come back at the start point and getting back to the end point was really a pain.
2. Overall improvement in UI
3. Camera preview feature is nice.
4. Lagging is improved but not as butter as claimed.
5. Battery backup still sucks, no improvement at all. It is not even lasting till evening after a overnight full charge.
6. Google Now is working but its not able to understand the Indian accent most of the time (yes i changed the language to English (India) ) and its slow too over a 512 Kbps wifi connection.
7. Love the Google Now , To work – To home distance and notification to often visiting places. But when will Google giving us the Navigation feature in India. Till the time we have to depend up on Ownhere mod.
8. Improvement in the notification bar is very good.
Has anyone tried manually updating Nexus S I9023 to 4.1.1?
Thanks Pramod ur technique worked 🙂
Great work Pramod. This technique worked out fine.
I have a custom rom installed, and i DON’T want the OTA Jelly Bean release. It seems my Nexus S has already downloaded it and is trying to get me to install it. Is there any way to remove the downloaded update and prevent future downloads? I’m going to wait until a new custom rom comes out which I like.
If anybody wants to know the answer, here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29258906&highlight=ro+build+fingerprint#post29258906
