Awestruck by the ultra-cheap Aakash aka Datawind Ubislate, well we have a decent competitor in the form of world’s first $99 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet from MIPS and it has got Google’s blessings.

MIPS Technologies has released Nova 7, an Android 4.0 tablet that features 7” capacitive multi-touch screen, 1GHz single-core MIPS-based XBurst CPU with Vivante GC860 GPU, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2MP rear camera, front camera, HDMI out, and microSD card slot. As we have already said that it has got Google’s blessings, which means you get the full suite of Google Mobile apps and Android Market support.

“I’m thrilled to see the entrance of MIPS-Based Android 4.0 tablets into the market. Low cost, high performance tablets are a big win for mobile consumers and a strong illustration of how Android’s openness drives innovation and competition for the benefit of consumers around the world.”

– Andy Rubin, senior vice president of mobile at Google

Nova 7 is now available in China and online through Ainol Electronics Co., Ltd. It will be available in the United States and other geographies within the next several months. No word specifically on India release, but we would love to see it release in India.

  1. I am already an owner of NOVO 7 Advanced, purchased from merimobiles.com at $139.99. It is a great tablet with great futures. Look at the review of it:

I can play Tegra 2 games on it (using Chairfire 3d) since it is having same GPU (Mali 400) which is same in Samsung Galaxy SII.

On Novo 7 (basic), it is already available with Honeycomb 3.2 and I think that they are upgrading to ICS 4.0. But, I am not sure if it’s GPU is really powerful as of NOVO 7 Advanced.

At this price, a great tablet though.

  2. its also available in mp4nation.net.
@vishwas i was planning on buying the novo 7 advanced but i heard its screen isnt good.could please comment on that?

  3. is it a 3G tablet? Can be upgraded to Android 4? Can we insert sim card for net usage & calls?

  4. Lol, people you are not paying attention. This tablet has no need of 4.0 upgrade, its already 4.0. Plus it has a different ultra low power consumption processor, not like in novo7 advanced.

  5. Dont wait till its release in us or india.buy one but make sure you go for 2.3 advanced model only.and not the basic model.because the things advanced can do theres no way the basic can perform.tried and tested. Genuine suggestion.if you want upgrade to ics in future.
