Micromax’s first Android phone “Andro” launching soon – Exclusive

Indian mobile phone manufacturer Micromax is going to launch its first Android smartphone “Andro” in the next few days [most probably December first week]. Micromax Andro first came in news in October and it was expected to have a Diwali launch date, which never materialized.  But, this time it is certain.

Coming to the smartphone now, Micromax Andro is an entry level Android phone, which is expected to be priced around Rs. 9,000. It will come with a 2.8 inch resistive screen, Android 2.1, and 3.2 MP camera.

These specifications are coming from one of our readers, who spotted this device at Ambience mall in Gurgaon, where Micromax is currently showcasing it.

For me personally, there are few disappointments – resistive screen and Android 2.1.  Even Huawei Ideos, whose India launch is still not known, is coming with Android 2.2 and capacitive touch. If Micromax prices it lower than the expected 9K, it might get some buyers.

Well, we are also attending Micromax Bloggers meet tomorrow, and will surely try to get hold of this smartphone.

  1. Too little , too late.

2.8 is a tad too small for a touch only device, my last phone was a 2.8 restive bought 2 yrs ago !.

Even if it is a generic device which could be upgraded to android 2.2 I hv my doubts on whether the processor would be up to the task of managing.

Typically a point to cross check on these type of phones is the rating of the battery. Lots of them come with 900 – 1200 mAH which drains off pretty quickly for these touch screen devices.

My Optimus one is functioning awesome !
