Indian answer to Amazon.com, Infibeam.com has announced the Phi – a touch screen media device that supports high definition multimedia formats. This makes it the first Indian company to launch an Android MID/Tablet, while Notion Ink, the other major start up is still gearing up.
The most important part of this device is it runs on Android 2.2, which makes it the first Froyo powered Android tablet, on the other hand the product page of Phi also claims that the users will be able to download apps from Android Market, which Google has not allowed for non-smartphone devices, strange!
Coming back to our Android tablet, The Phi has dimensions of 225 x 175 x 75mm, a 7″ TFT LCD touch screen display and an inbuilt memory of 8GB. The 1800mA/H Li-ion battery allows extended usage. The current version comes with Android. Phi carries a TF card slot for extensible content storage. It also comes with HDMI port, USB Host / OTG capabilities, in addition to a speakerphone and a earphone jack. The device is slated for release on July 30, 2010 and will wear a price tag of Rs 14,999.
We are digging up more on the device, so stay tuned.
