Supersonic lands as ‘HTC Evo 4G’ on Sprint; becomes first 4G Android phone
As expected, HTC and Sprint today announced HTC Evo, the first 4G Android device, at CTIA. HTC Evo is the same HTC Supersonic, which was leaked several times before being finally launched today.
The phone sports a WVGA 4.3-inch TFT touchscreen, Snapdragon 1GHz processor, 1GB of memory, and 512MB of RAM. It also packs 8 megapixel camera with flash, 720p video, 1.3 megapixel camera in the front, HDMI output, and an included 8GB microSD card.
The phone will launch this summer on its 4G network with Android 2.1 along with Sense UI. The handset runs a combo of EV-DO Rev. A and WiMAX, with calls still being made over CDMA and the EV-DO / WiMAX options for data. The phone will support up to eight connections on WiMAX, meaning the phone can become a Wi-Fi hotspot for other devices nearby.
