Acer, ZTE showcase quad core Tegra 3 tablets at CES
Acer and ZTE are showcasing two un-announced Android tablets at NVIDIA stall at CES. While we know the name for Acer tablet, which is Iconia Tab A510, ZTE tablet is still un-identified. Acer has officially launched Iconia Tab A200 today. According to Acer, tablet is now available in select countries (names unknown) with Android 3.2, and will be released worldwide with Ice Cream Sandwich in January 2012.

Acer President Jim Wong has confirmed that his company is going to launch Tegra 3 tablets next year. Two of company’s upcoming quad core tablets were leaked recently and Wong stated that those leaks were true and these tablets will be launching sometime in 2012. He also said that he is expecting that Android will account for 80pc of Acer’s smartphone shipments in 2012.

Acer has launched its first NFC Android smartphone Liquid Express in UK today. It was first seen in France in September, and will be available in UK’s Orange and T-Mobile stores from today.

The quad core bug hasn’t only bitten Asus, HTC and Lenovo, two user profiles spotted on Acer’s official website have outed company’s upcoming Tegra 3 powered Iconia Tab A510/A511 tablets. While A510 will be the WiFi only version, A511 will come with 3G support, similar to Iconia Tab A500 and A501 Honeycomb tabs.

Asus and Acer have confirmed that all of their Honeycomb tablets will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich. While Acer Poland has given a time-frame of update roll-out around January 2012, Asus has skipped that part.

Acer has shown off company’s first NFC Android smartphone in France and will go on sale by the end of year in the country; company has also hinted that all of its future Android smartphones might be released with NFC hardware.
Microsoft continues to milk Android manufacturers
Acer, ViewSonic latest to sign patent license agreement
After getting HTC in its bag last year, Microsoft has now forced Acer, ViewSonic to sign patent agreement to save them from being sued. This agreement will protect both the companies from being dragged in patent lawsuits by Microsoft for the use of various patents in their Android devices.
Although Microsoft is tight lipped on agreement terms, it is likely that both the companies will be a paying a fixed amount per sale of their Android products similar to what was agreed with HTC.
