Samsung revamps Chromebox design, internals remain same
Samsung has silently released a revamped version of its Chrome OS powered Chromebox. Available now in the United Kingdom, there is no word on the US release of this revamped box.
Surprisingly, despite changing the design of the Chromebox, company has not updated the specifications of the device, which remain at 1.9GHz Celeron B940 processor, 4GB RAM, 16GB of SSD, Wi-Fi, 2W mono speaker, 6 USB 2.0 ports, a DVI port, headset jack, and 2 Display Ports.
The Series 3 Chromebox has been priced at 279 GBP ($453.50).
Google’s Field Trip app now available to UK users on Google Play
Until only available in United States, NianticLabs@Google has now been released Field Trip app for UK users as well. The application, which runs in background on your Android phone, gives information about unique and cool stuff around you.
“When you get close to something interesting, it pops up a card with details about the location. No click is required. If you have a headset or bluetooth connected, it can even read the info to you,” notes Google.
According to AC, which noticed this change in availability, the usefulness of Field Trip to Android phone owners in the UK will depend on where in the country they live. London is pretty well-documented, with cards for restaurants, venues, historical sites and other attractions densely populating the center of the capital. However other UK cities are looking much sparser at the moment.
The app was originally released in September this year. “The idea behind the app was to build something that would help people connect with the real, physical world around them,” Google’s John Hanke had told New York Times at the time of launch.
Google UK chief apologises for Nexus 4 mess, partly blames LG
Google UK chief has taken to Google+ to apologise to angry Nexus 4 buyers, who are yet to receive their phones despite the 3-5 days shipping estimates given at the time of ordering. He also added that such customers will get a refund of their shipping charges.
Google UK Chief Dan Cobley has been getting numerous comments on his Google+ profile about the Nexus 4 orders, so he finally took time to properly clarify the condition. According to him, the supplies from manufacturer (LG) have been scarce and erratic (the word was later removed by him).
Cobley promised that the customers who got the 3-5 days shipping estimates will get the notification emails this week with tracking information, however the customers with pre-Christmas estimates should also get the order processing done this week.
Here is his full statement:
Dear all
I know that what you are going through is unacceptable and we are all working through the nights and weekends to resolve this issue. Supplies from the manufacturer are scarce, and our communication has been flawed. I can offer an unreserved apology for our service and communication failures in this process.
For those that originally received a 3-5 days shipping estimate, your orders are now in process for fulfillment. You can expect an email notification early this week which will include tracking information. Although you will be initially charged in full, you will receive a credit for the shipping charge soon after.
For others that received pre-Christmas shipping estimates, we anticipate processing your orders for fulfillment this week.
I realise that the people who ordered the Nexus 4 so early are among our most committed and loyal users and we are doing all we can to put things right.
Sorry again.
Dan
