After US, Asia driving Android phone sales
We know that United States has been the front runner in terms of Android phone sales in the recent past. But, the rapid recent growth in the number of phones carrying Google OS in Asian continent has been responsible for the jump in Android’s graph [Per day 300,000 activations milestone].
Andy Rubin during an interview with Financial Times said that after the US, we saw Asia go crazy, with sales in South Korea in particular going “berserk” in the past four months.
Similar sentiments were also highlighted in a recent report by GFK, [but its accuracy was doubted after it was found changing whole Asia continent definitions].

When Google recently launched Android 2.3, and did not mention the updated device activation count, there was a lot of talk about a possible decline in the Android growth rate. But today, Andy Rubin, Android boss tweeted that over 300,000 Android devices are being activated each day and put a full stop on all these rumours.

With just three weeks until Christmas, deals continue at Cellular South. The company says that it is the only wireless provider with five Android smartphones for under $100 and it is offering HTC Hero Android device for free with a two-year contract. Additionally, Cellular South is making it even easier to make the smartphone switch by covering all early termination fees up to $200 and offering free activation – a $36 value.
Android 2.3 brings more languages support incl Hindi
The new Android version brought the support for various new languages including Hindi, Arabic, Hebrew and many more. The languages support has doubled. In Android 2.2, there were only 26 languages, in 2.3, we have 55 languages.

Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” SDK is here; brings NFC, large display support and more
Finally, the version we have been waiting for so long has arrived. Official launch will follow later in the day at All Things D: Dive Into Mobile conference, but official Android website has already made the SDK available for download.

Gingerbread UI spotted in official Google video
While we are just three days away from the expected Android Gingerbread announcement, an official video from Google Hong Kong became the talk of the blogosphere.
This Google Voice Search Demo supposedly shows Nexus One running on Gingerbread, and the UI changes are clearly present.
Though we did not find many changes, expect a new tab in Android Market app description – Related Apps, and some odd UI improvement in notifications bar along with Menus.
Those who are expecting major overhaul of UI, you will be disappointed with Gingerbread, but we are hoping that it will deliver on other fronts.
Motorola Droid 2 explodes during call
Droid Does a lot of things, but we did not know that it explodes too. According to a customer, Verizon Droid 2 smartphone exploded while he was trying to make a call.
He was injured in explosion, and got four stitches. The person wants compensation from Motorola and is planning to take legal action.

Google Editions: The e-book store launching soon in US
Google is getting ready to launch its online E-Book store, which is an extension of already present Google Books. According to WSJ, It is set to debut in the U.S. by the end of the year and internationally in the first quarter of next year, said Scott Dougall, a Google product management director.

Android set to be number 1 OS in Europe next year – IDC
According to research agency IDC, Android will surpass Nokia’s Symbian and become Europe’s top smartphone OS next year. It has already reached 23% of the total smartphones sales in Western Europe in the third quarter.
“The iPhone was last year’s hot device and now people are looking for something different,” said IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo, who is based in London. The Galaxy S is seen as offering similar feel, function, and third-party applications to an iPhone for a lower price, he added.
