Samsung launches SMT-I9100 Android tablet with KDDI in Japan
This is no Galaxy Tab; it is a different Android tablet from Samsung which was launched today in Japan on KDDI.
Samsung SMT-I9100 runs Android 2.2 and sports a 7 inch display similar to Galaxy Tab, other specifications include 512MB RAM, Ocean Observation UI, 2MP camera with no front-facing camera, Bluetooth 2.1, 2 hour battery life [12 hours standby], 4GB flash storage, microSD card slot (up to 32GB). It comes with Wi-Fi only capability, there is no 3G support.

HTC announces launch of Desire HD & Desire Z for Asia Pacific
Partners with a range of operators including Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTone in Taiwan, SoftBank in Japan, CSL in Hong Kong, Vodafone in India and Australia, Korea Telecom in Korea, SingTel, Starhub and M1 in Singapore, Maxis in Malaysia and Mobiphone in Vietnam
HTC today officially launched its latest Android 2.2 smartphones Desire HD and Desire Z in Asia Pacific countries. These smartphones will be available through mobile operators and retailers across major Asian markets from November 2010.
While we are waiting for prices for other countries, HTC has announced the recommended retail prices for Taiwan, and they are NTD20,900 and NTD18,900 respectively for Desire HD & Z.

Sharp launches IS03 Android smartphone on au by KDDI in Japan
Sharp and KDDI today announced their second Android smartphone in the IS series – IS03. The smartphone will be available in late-November.
Sharp IS03 will feature a 9.6 megapixel CCD camera with autofocus , and 960×640-resolution 3.5-inch touchscreen along with a monochromatic “memory LCD” for displaying the time or new notifications – even if the rest of the screen is powered off. Somewhat similar to what we have seen in Samsung Continuum, which is coming on Verizon in US.
It’ll come with Android OS 2.1(with an upgrade to 2.2 on a later date). It will support KDDI’s “one Market”, along with Android Market.
Some the features of Sharp IS03:
- Infrared for quick data communication between two phones;
- One-seg TV for watching TV on the trains or in cars;
- Osaifu-keitai, a contact-less IC payment chip with a huge infrastructure supporting payment to over ten participating services, including McDonalds, Edy, and JR’s Mobile Suica.
The phone will go on sale in late November, and pricing will be announced closer to launch.

Galaxy S landing in Japan with NTT Docomo this Oct
Samsung Galaxy S is selling all over the world, but it seems Japan users are going to get Galaxy S love in October only. Samsung will be releasing its Android flagship smartphone on NTT Docomo.
NTT Docomo in the collaboration with be starting an e-book store, and this Galaxy S will be the test device for the store along with Xperia X10.
To remind you Galaxy S comes with 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display, a fast 1GHz processor, support for HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options with a 5-megapixel camera.

Sharp launches Android e-readers – Galapagos
Sharp has introduced two Android powered e-readers in Japanese market. These will be called Galapagos, and will come with two display sizes of ‘Mobile Type’ 5.5 inch, and 10.8 inch ‘Home Type’.
Mobile Type will coming with a 1024×600 resolution LCD screen, with two color options – red and silver, while Home Type will have 1366×800 resolution HD LCD and will be available in black color. Both the e-readers are Wi-Fi enabled, while company has not released more details.

Mouse Computer to launch LuvPad AD100 Android tablet in Japan
Japanese Android lovers will soon have a powerful Android tablet to play with. Mouse Computer is ready with its nVidia Tegra running Android 2.2 tablet – LuvPad AD100. It is scheduled to arrive in Japan later this month, reported Akihabara News.
LuvPad comes with a Nvidia Tegra 250 Chipset, a 10” LED backlight Touchscreen with 1024×600 resolution, 512MB of DDR2 RAM, 8GB of internal memory and a Wi-Fi B/G antenna for 760g.

Spring Design to launch Alex e-reader in Japan
Spring Design is planning to launch its Android e-reader in Japan soon. Akihabaranews is reporting that the company opened its Japan office recently.
The device will be sold at a price somewhere around 30,000 Yen.
Fujistu working on Android phone?
Smartphone business is getting denser day by day. We are now hearing that Japan’s Fujistu might be working on an Android phone. The phone will be released in 2011.
Fujitsu currently do not have a smartphone product line. However, sales of smartphones is growing in the Japanese market.
No other details are currently available.
Japan to see Android roll-out on July 10
Japan will see the roll out of first Android phone there on July 10. According to Ed Burnette, Japanese customers will have access to free applications in Android Market right away with the roll-out, while they would have to wait for the paid application. While Bulgaria and Romania seem next on the target list for Android launch, new Japanese customers will have factory installed cupcake version of Android in their phones.
