LG, Google in talks for Nexus style Google TV for version 3.0
Google is currently in talks with LG to provide company with the first access to Google’s next version of Google TV software, much like what it does in the Nexus program for phones. Qualcomm has launched new processor that will power Smart TVs and Digital media adapters. Company showcased the capability of these processors in Dr. Paul E. Jacobs’ keynote at CES recently via Lenovo’s K91 Smart TV, which will be the first product to come with this processor.

The Press Day at Consumers Electronics Show just came to an end. As expected the day was full of announcements, press conferences, and developer summits. Several new smartphones, tablets and Google TV devices were launched. Sony was the hero of the day with two new smartphones, Google TV devices and Smart Accessories. Huawei contributed with its first Android super phone and Asus showed couple of tablets.
Sony launches new Google TV devices, remote
Sony has announced two new Google TV devices at CES: NSZ-GP9 Blu-ray player and NSZ-GS7 media streamer (network media player). Both these devices come with a band new remote with backlit keyboard, and a touchpad with gesture navigation support. Soon after Marvell announced its partnership with Google for the use of ARMADA 1500 in Google TV devices, Google has officially detailed the list of new partners for TV solutions. According to a blog post, LG, Vizio, MediaTek, Marvell (already talked), Samsung and Sony (existing) will now be making hardware for Google TV. Most of the mentioned companies will be showcasing their products at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show.

With the closure of Intel’s Digital Home Group, it was inevitable for Google to go ARM’s way for its Google TV solutions. Until now, all the Google TV devices were powered by Intel’s CE4100 platform and it had decent share of problems (high silicon cost, high power consumption etc.)that somewhat were responsible for the disaster named Google TV.

Russian manufacturer NetUP has launched TV sets that won’t require any IPTV set-top boxes to access IPTV services. These televisions will come with Android-based IP STB integrated and will allow users to access the usual IPTV features along with web browsing, watching YouTube, and running normal Android apps.
