XOLO to introduce quad-core phones in Q-series, Q800 first: Report

xolo-logoIt seems every Indian mobile firm is jumping in the quad-core arena. We first saw Micromax, then Karbonn and now XOLO (a sub-brand by Lava) is planning to launch quad-core Android smartphones in the country. According to online reports, the phone will be part of company’s upcoming Q-series, which is reportedly exclusive to quad-core phones.

The smartphone will be dubbed as XOLO Q800 and is likely to be officially announced by mid-March. There is no word on exact pricing, but the reports suggest the phone will get a price-tag around INR 12-13,000, which is in line with Micromax’s Canvas HD A116 and Karbonn S1 Titanium.

Pantel announces Penta T-Pad WS708C Android dual-SIM tablet for INR 6,999

Pantel Technologies has launched its new T-Pad WS708C tablet today. The tablet joins the growing number of dual-SIM Android tablets available in the country.  It is also company’s second tablet to run on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.

Pental T-Pad WS708C features 1GHz Cortex A9 processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, 2MP rear camera, front camera, and 7-inch multi-touch capacitive display with 800x480p resolution.T-pad-WS708C-Penta

According to a press release issued by the company, Penta T-Pad WS708C has been priced at INR 6,999 and will be available in the coming days.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Black colour variant revealed

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-8-0-Charcoal-BlackWe have already seen the official announcement of the Marble White colour variant of Galaxy Note 8.0, also known as, Note 510 in India. Now the Charcoal Black colour version of the tablet has made it way online thanks to a leaked press render.

Posted by folks at Phone Arena, the charcoal black version should certainly be appreciated by those, who don’t like the White version. There has still not been any official announcement, so chances are that we never see this colour variant in the market, but traditionally after a few months of launch, Samsung has often released new colour variants of its Android products.

Asus Transformer Pad becomes first non-Nexus tablet to get Android 4.2 update

Asus has increasingly showed how serious it is about Android updates. Since the debut of original Transformer, the Taiwanese manufacturer has always been one of the first companies to push Android updates to its devices and it has done it again. Company today announced that US owners of Transformer Pad TF300T will be getting an over-the-air Android 4.2 update beginning today.

The update will reach other regions sometime this month.  This is the first Android device after the Nexus roll-out to get the Android 4.2 update.ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300_Android_4.2_Update

According to Asus, the new update brings performance and stability improvements, improves the user experience with new features as well as providing multiple user account logins.

Samsung Galaxy S IV specifications leaked via benchmark

There has been a lot of confusion regarding the Galaxy S 4 specifications. The smartphone is about ten days away from official unveiling, but surprisingly the company has been able to keep a tight lid on tis design and other details. Thanks to an Antutu benchmark listing, we finally know the details specifications of at least one version of Galaxy S IV smartphone; it is very likely to come in different versions.

Lava IRIS 430 spotted on company website; packs dual-core CPU, ICS

Lava Mobiles’ another Android smartphone has appeared on their website. Dubbed as IRIS 430, the smartphone runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There is no word on the official release, but we can expect to see it sometime this week.

The smartphone features 1GHz dual-core processor, 5MP rear camera, 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive display and 1400 mAh (or 1500 mAh, Lava website shows both values) battery. The phone also comes with dual-SIM connectivity, VGA front camera, 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage, and microSD card slot.iris-430

IRIS 430 pricing is unknown right now, but it is likely to be priced around INR 8,000. We will hopefully know more this week.

US Judge reduces Apple’s $1bn patent award in Samsung case to $598.9mn

samsung-tab-ipadApple’s $1 billion patent win over Samsung is significantly smaller now. US Judge Lucy Koh, who is presiding over the case, has overturned the jury’s damage award citing the wrong calculation done by the jury to reach the damages. She has also ordered a new trial to consider the damages that Samsung actually owes to Apple; however she encouraged both parties to have the case reviewed by an appellate court before any new trial.

This is certainly a blow to Apple in the short run but the new trial might award the company even more money in damages but we can’t really predict the outcome the new trial.

Sony Xperia Z India launch on March 6

Sony Mobile has revealed via a teaser of its official Facebook Page that it is going to launch its flagship smartphone Xperia Z on March 6 in India. The launch date fit perfectly with the timeline earlier given by the company.sony-xperia-z-teaser

Sony Xperia Z was originally introduced at CES 2013 and comes with features like 5-inch full HD display, 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and 2GB RAM. The phone also packs 16GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, NFC, 13MP rear camera, 2MP front camera and Android 4.1. The smartphone has been loaded with a 2330 mah battery and the usual set of connectivity options.

Archos announces 13.3-inch Android tablet FamilyPad 2 for €299

Archos-FamilyPad-2French manufacturer Archos has announced the launch of a big-screen Android tablet FamilyPad 2 today. Carrying the 13.3-inch display size of its predecessor, Archos FamilyPad 2 will soon go on sale in Europe for €299.

The Archos FamilyPad 2 packs 1.6GHz dual-core Cortex A9 processor, 1280x800p resolution display, 1GB RAM, 8GB of internal storage and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. This laptop sized tablet also comes with 2MP front and rear cameras, Wi-Fi connectivity and microSD card slot.
