HTC Evo 4G Android 2.2 update rolling out now

Android 2.2 for HTC Evo 4G has arrived. Users have started receiving the OTA update notifications. The firmware version for the OTA is 3.26.651.6 and clocks in at 84.34MB.
As the update will be rolled out gradually, do not worry, you will also get it very soon.

Samsung YP-MB2 aka Galaxy Touch live picture leaked; launch expected on Aug 11

After lots of blur leaks, finally we have something to get a good look at what is Samsung’s answer to iPod Touch. After targeting iPhone with Galaxy S, Samsung is expected to launch the iPod Touch competitor “Galaxy Touch” on August 11.

Coming back to the PMP, YP-MB2 will run Android 2.1 OS and have a 1GHz CPU, 4-inch Super AMOLED display, digital compass, GPS, DMB,Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, 3MP camera and Android market access. Well it seems strange that Google will something other than a phone to have Android market access.

Android phone shipments rose 886% in Q2(2009 to 2010)

The Q2 figures are out and folks over Canalys went through them and came up with the interesting insights about the rise of Android. While, the smart phone market grew by 64% annually worldwide in Q2 2010, With key products from HTC, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and LG, among others, shipments of smart phones running on Android grew an impressive 886% in Q2 2010.

The excerpts from the Canalys report:

Android in United States:

‘The latest release of our detailed and complete country-level smart phone shipment data for Q2 2010 clearly reveals the impressive momentum Android is gaining in markets around the world,’ said Canalys VP and Principal Analyst, Chris Jones, commenting on the publication. ‘In the United States, for example, we have seen the largest carrier, Verizon Wireless, heavily promoting high-profile Android devices, such as the Droid by Motorola and the Droid Incredible by HTC. These products have been well received by the market, with consumers eager to download and engage with mobile applications and services, such as Internet browsing, social networking, games and navigation.’ The United States smart phone market grew 41% year on year. It is the largest smart phone market in the world by a significant margin, with 14.7 million units accounting for 23% of global shipments in Q2 2010. Android devices collectively represented a 34% share of the US market in the quarter, and with growth of 851% Android became the largest smart phone platform in the country.

Pantech Vega to be available in Korean market from Aug 3

pantech vega2 583x1024 Pantech Vega to be available in Korean market from Aug 3Pantech recently introduced Vega Android phone in South Korea. There was no news till now on availability. Clearing up all the confusion, company today announced that the phone will be available in the market from Aug 3.
On the colors front, SK Telecom and Pantech will release the black color first and the white, pink, gold-brown colors in the middle of August to broaden customer’s choices.
The phone features a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, 1 gigahertz Snapdragon processor, Android 2.1 and a 3D UI, Pre-load T-Cash payment system and weighs just just 114 grams.

SK Telecom to introduce carrier billing in Android Market

SK Telecom announced today that it signed an agreement with Google to strengthen Android Market in Korea. The agreement includes provisions to cooperate on launching carrier billing for Android Market, setting up the Company Channel and supporting Android application developers.

Carrier Billing for Android Market: As part of the agreement, SK Telecom and Google plan to launch carrier billing for purchases made on Android Market. With the introduction of carrier billing, SK Telecom users will be able to pay for Android Market content by having fees charged directly to their monthly mobile bills.

Reliance Mobile launches HTC Wildfire in India

Notion Ink Adam to come with Android 2.2; will get Android 3.0 later

An update was long due on the ‘Made in India’ Android tablet Adam from Notion Ink. And here it is, Adam will be coming with Android 2.2 on-board, which seems quiet normal now considering Android 3.0 is round the corner, but the good thing is company is looking at all the options including the minimum hardware requirements for Gingerbread aka Android 3.0, so that when Google launches the update, Adam could get it.
