HTC releases Android 2.2 update for ‘HTC Desire’ in India

HTC seems to be on Android 2.2 release spree across Asia. India is the third country to get Android 2.2 update on HTC Desire after Singapore and Hong Kong.
As it is an over-the-air update, your HTC Desire will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G.

Instructions from HTC:

After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Build number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.13.720.1. Update: Android 2.2 and HTC Sense update. Note? Please back up your data first before upgrading your phone. We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update.

Do not panic, if it takes time for Android 2.2 update to reach your phone, as the update is rolled in batches.
Do share your experiences with us.

Got my new HTC Desire. It came with Android 2.1 OOTB. I am currently using a Cellone 2G SIM card on it. Shortly after I turned it on, I got the notification that FroYo 2.2 was available OTA and after I accepted it, it took about 15mins using WiFi to download and install. Its been 4 days so far and things are working quite well!

Looks like HTC has completely given up on Android Developer Phone2 (ADP2), also known as HTC Magic I guess. Its still stuck at 1.6 while other phones are getting latest 2.2.

Atleast there are CynogenMod ROMs freely available, which can allow us to use latest OS. But an official update will always be nice.

And I bought Developer Phone instead of regular consumer phone thinking it will have best support available.

Alas its not too be. Both Google and HTC have simply no plan to bring an official update for it I guess.
